Last updated: 19 July 2026. This policy applies to https://ohkaywords.com.
1. Who we are
OhKay Words (“we”, “us”) is the storytelling home of Kay Adkins, based in Alfreton, DE55, United Kingdom. We are the data controller for personal information collected through this website.
If you have any questions about this policy or your personal data, contact us at kay@ohkaywords.com.
2. What information we collect and why
Contact form. When you use our contact form we collect your name, email address, and the message you send. We use this only to reply to your enquiry. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in responding to messages you send us.
Newsletter. When you sign up to our newsletter we collect your email address (and your name if you provide it). We use this to send you our newsletter. Lawful basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email.
Blog comments. If you comment on our blog we collect the name and email address you enter, together with your comment and IP address (collected automatically by WordPress to help detect spam). Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in hosting reader discussion and preventing abuse.
Shop purchases. Our shop is operated through Shopify. When you place an order, your details (name, email, delivery address, order details) are processed by Shopify and shared with our print and fulfilment partner, Bookvault, solely to produce and deliver your order. Payment details are handled by Shopify’s payment providers; we never see your full card details. Lawful basis: performance of a contract with you. Shopify’s own privacy policy also applies to shop transactions.
Cookies. We use only functional cookies. For details, see our Cookie Policy.
3. Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who process it on our behalf.
Our newsletter is managed by Kit (Kit.com, formerly ConvertKit), which stores subscriber email addresses. Our shop runs on Shopify, and orders are fulfilled by Bookvault. This website is hosted by HostGator. Contact form messages are delivered to our email inbox.
Some of these providers (such as Kit and Shopify) are based in, or store data in, the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the UK, it is protected by safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.
4. How long we keep your information
Contact form messages are kept only as long as needed to deal with your enquiry. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe. Blog comments and their details remain published until you ask for their removal. Order information is retained as long as required for accounting and tax purposes (normally six years in the UK).
5. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; have inaccurate data corrected; have your data deleted; restrict or object to our processing; receive your data in a portable format; and withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.
To exercise any of these rights, email kay@ohkaywords.com. We will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at https://ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
6. Children
This website is not aimed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. Some of our books are written for younger readers, but purchases and newsletter signups should be made by an adult.
7. Security
We use HTTPS encryption across the site and rely on reputable providers (WordPress/HostGator, Shopify, Kit) that maintain their own technical and organisational security measures.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top shows when it was last revised. Significant changes will be noted on this page.
