about

Kay Adkins writes contemporary stories that braid together history and crime. As K.A. Dempsey she writes darkly cosy mysteries and action-adventure thrillers; as Maggie Makepeace she writes adventures for younger readers with rather more cheese in them.

Kay lives in what she lovingly calls ‘Ugly Derbyshire’ – which is to say, not the Peak District – with her husband and two dogs: a Border Terrier called Pip and a Jack Russell called Dottie. The whole pack spends as much time as possible in Hunstanton, Norfolk, because everyone loves to be beside the sea.

Before books, Kay worked in the sports and leisure industry, became a learning and development specialist and – never one to do just one thing – helped run the family paint-manufacturing business. She has a lifelong fascination with historic properties, especially the histories of the people and things that don’t make it into the guided tour.

OhKay Words is her publishing home – all books are printed to order and shipped worldwide. For the blog, wander over to Kreative Kay; for the books, the Shop is open.
