You are safe, no Oompa Loompas today, although that old Trumpy/ Musky thing is still disrupting stuff out there beyond my immediate world. I am not sure I have much for you today. Sorry. Still, let’s have a go shall we?
I suppose yesterday was a bit of a big deal. I met a first cousin that I didn’t know I even had until relatively recently. He is the son of an Uncle (the one on the bike) who we thought had never had children. This particular Uncle was the nicest man but sadly died of cancer in his fifties. He left us about 45 years ago, so my journey with him was relatively short. I had much longer than his son though, so it was a delight to try and bring him alive for him. I think if my Uncle had known he had a son, he would have wanted to know him and be part of his life so I am utterly convinced he didn’t know he existed. How sad.
The new cousin brought along one of his (half) brothers and his sister-in-law and they were lovely too. And….big shout out to ‘Sister-in-Law’ who put in all of the hard work to get us all together. What a delight it was to bring our Grandparents into his life for the first time and to introduce him to other family members through photos and stories. Hopefully I can arrange for him to meet some of his Aunties and Uncles before they shuffle off to be with their brother.
One day, I might do the whole ‘DNA Secrets’ thing for your delectation but I have to respect it isn’t just my story so I will keep how we found each other private for now -but if you see me in the street, I will share the basics, if you are interested?
Today brings a doctors appointment (always a dread, as I have not experienced the best of communication from all of the medical folk I have encountered over the past couple of years) and then to the Book Tour Launch of Frozen People by Ellie Griffiths. I will report back on both tomorrow.
