January 18th 2025 – Can I Bring this Meeting to Order

Today seemed to go by in a flash.Whoosh…..just like that it was done. But as I reflect, I am not sure why it all disappeared so quickly into the mist (not that it was misty, just cold). Here we go then:

  • I did a bit of writing.
  • I pivoted to domestic chores. I can assure you, I am not in the ‘OCD Cleaning Gang’, most domestic chores physically hurt me so facing them is quite tough. Still, they have to be done and as we have ditched the cleaner, for now, there is just the two of us to get it done. Himself always says something like “Now, don’t you feel better for having done that?” and “can’t you smell the difference?” For the sake of not getting into an argument about laziness, I usually smile sweetly and say “yes, it’s much better.” However, for the sake of truth and transparency, I would like to record that I never feel better for cleaning and I prefer an incense burner or an infuser as a way to improve smells. Having said that, I do like the house, especially my bed sheets, to be clean though so, although it doesn’t contribute to my physical wellness, I do it.
  • I managed a 16 hour fast without too much trouble. I am not sure I feel any better (or worse) for it. I will continue to monitor this health intervention and report back.
  • In the afternoon I headed off to Local History Society’s AGM. Yes, I know how to live. I don’t get to these meetings as often as I would like but they are like a tonic and a definite nostalgia hit. The AGM is always a favourite. The committee (collective age of about 400) run it like a branch meeting of t’union in the 1950’s. It is not unlike the Parish Council meetings in the Vicar of Dibley. We have long lectures about being quorate, the minutes have to be proposed and seconded etc. Wonderful. Even more wonderful, is that this fabulous relic of the past (pun intended) has managed to successfully bag a grant for £76,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The project is apparently ‘fluid’ but will record the voices of the village. Wow eh!
  • I also managed to catch up with an old school friend. We fell into nattering like we had never left school. It is a little like a comfort blanket when you have one of these encounters. Don’t get me wrong, I have seen her many times since we left school but not that often so it feels special when we can be those young people again. Sadly, she lost her Dad last September and, of course, I have my own bevvy of recent ghosts, so we were able to swap comforting stories which supported our grief. Please don’t think this was a miserable conversation, anything but. We both believe in the natural flow of things – I think it may be the farming connection – and accept that acknowledgment is the key to facing things head on.
